7 Things – Stamps @ Lions

1. Us

The Stampeders started the season off strong last week with a 32-24 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Jake Maier was impressive throwing for 252 yards and two touchdowns while Canadian wide receiver Clark Barnes was strong in his first game back in almost a year racking up 61 yards and one major.

2. Them

The Lions fell 35-27 to the Toronto Argonauts in their first game of the season. The Argos managed to get to Vernon Adams Jr. six times although he still put up 363 yards passing and two touchdowns in the loss.

3. Head To Head

These two teams met four times last season with the Lions winning three, including the West Semi-Final. Calgary’s late season 41-16 win did vault them into the playoffs for an 18th straight year before they bowed out to the Lions.

4. Fast Facts

Saturday’s game is the 1,278th regular-season game in Stampeders history. The Stamps have 700 wins, 556 losses and 21 ties since 1945. Calgary has played 639 games at home, with a record of 406-223-10, and 638 games on the road (294-333-11)

This is the 206th regular-season meeting of all time between Calgary and BC. The Stamps hold a 113-87-5 edge including a 51-48-3 mark in Vancouver

Thanks to our Director of Communications Jean Lefebvre for handing off these facts!

5. Who’s Where

 6. Players to Watch

Stamps: DL Clarence Hicks: Hicks carried over his strong pre-season play into Week 1 registering a big sack last week against Hamilton.

Tiger-Cats: QB Vernon Adams Jr: There was some concern of a hand injury for Adams Jr. heading into Week 2 but all signs point to him attempting to add on to his big passing yardage from Week 1.

7. Quotable

Kobe Williams on the early chemistry in the defensive backfield.

“I think we got comfortable fast,” he said. “Especially me and Demerio (Houston). A lot of work together and in the first game it was a confidence boost.”
