Bye Week Breakdown

Stampeders linebacker Micah Awe recently had a baby and balanced his family life and football during the time off.

“Personally, we went to the zoo,” he said with a smile. “Little Raelynn got to see the zoo for the first time. I’m not sure how much she will remember but maybe she will remember the smells.

“Other than that it was trying to reset. I watched every single CFL game and then the film of each game right after to see the things you can’t see on TV. That’s what the bye week is for, it’s a reset for a marathon. On the football side you think about the last game and there was just so much more personally I could have done and as a team so much we could do better because ultimately the goal is to win a championship.

“It was a good learning experience but I don’t want to keep having the learning experiences with losses I want to have learning experiences with wins.”

Downing The Bombers

The Bombers enter this week having gone 0-3 for the first time since 2012 and appear to be pretty banged up on both sides of the ball. None of that matters to Awe who says they are still a strong group.

“I mean first off they are a good team,” he said. “It’s professional football so they’re 0-3 but that literally means nothing to me at all. All I know is we have to go against Zach Collaros, Brady Olivera, their whole o-line and the receiver-core they have so we’ve got to beat them.

“I’m ready to put a good foot forward and do way better. I just feel like I haven’t reached my full potential and, ultimately, I don’t want to get to the end of my career and feel like I never reached my full potential. I feel like I still have a lot more to give and I think if I can do that I can help the team.”

Quick Notes

Saturday’s game is the annual Purolator Tackle Hunger game. Fans are encouraged every year to bring non-perishable food items or cash donations to the game and drop them off to the Purolator and Food Bank volunteers stationed at the stadium gates.

It’s also the Family Day game so gather the whole family and get down to McMahon for a beautiful evening of football.
