TIMBITS FOOTBALL
The Stamps are in their fourth season of the Timbits Football Program in partnership with Tim Hortons.
The Timbits Minor Sports Program is a community-oriented sponsorship for children who participate in local sport teams. The program emphasis is placed more on fun, learning and participation rather than winning or losing. There are also valuable lessons DeAngelis and his honourary coaches help to instill in kids, such as teamwork, dedication and confidence. All these lessons will help to develop good, solid people as they grow older and progress through life.
Kicker Sandro DeAngelis is the Calgary spokesperson for the Timbits Football program. Sandro, along with other Stampeder players, will act as honourary coaches for Timbits games that will take place at McMahon Stadium.
“It wasn’t too long ago I was involved in little league football and I want to inspire kids to play the sport I love,” said DeAngelis.
The program started on Monday, Sept. 8 and ran for five weeks, wrapping up on Oct. 6. The kids got to experience a game under lights as the program ran from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
“The saucer-wide eyes of the kids as they are playing on the turf or while they’re touring the locker room makes it such an honour to be a part of,” said DeAngelis.
The program concluded with a feature game of the Timbits Football Program during halftime of the Stampeders home game against Winnipeg on Oct. 18.
The kids are between the ages of eight and 10 (atom division) years old. The program offers a positive and fun environment where they can play with their friends and meet new ones all while learning a new sport. All of this is to encourage healthy living as well as hopes the kids will continue to remain active well into their adult lives.
