For the 19th time in history, the Calgary Stampeders are facing the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League playoffs.
Calgary (12-6) finished second in the West Division this season and will play host to the third-place Roughriders (8-10) on Sunday. Nov. 11 at McMahon Stadium. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. MST.
The post-season tradition between the two clubs goes back to 1948 when the Stamps faced the Regina Roughriders, as they were known at the time, in the West Division final and won the two-game, total-point series by a score of 21-10 en route to Calgary’s first Grey Cup title.
Calgary won two of the three head-to-head meetings with Saskatchewan during the regular season including a 41-38 overtime decision in Week 4 at McMahon on July 19. The Stamps entered that game with a 1-2 record while the Roughriders were 3-0 but Calgary went 11-4 the rest of the way while Saskatchewan was 5-10.
The Stamps have won seven of the eight most recent regular-season meetings with Saskatchewan but the Roughriders have a five-game winning streak in the playoffs against Calgary.
The Stampeders were one of only two clubs to score more than 500 points during the 2012 regular season and allowed the third-fewest points. Calgary’s points differential of plus-105 was second only to the BC Lions (plus-125).
The Roughriders ranked fifth in points scored (457) and second in points allowed (409).
Calgary won its final five home games of the regular season and posted a 7-2 record overall at McMahon Stadium. The Roughriders were 3-6 on the road in 2012.
Kevin Glenn started all three games against Saskatchewan this season and completed 66 of 104 passes for 826 yards and eight touchdowns. Nik Lewis was on the receiving end of three of those majors and the slotback had a total of 14 catches for 182 yards against Saskatchewan in 2012.
Jon Cornish ran for 265 yards in the three games including a 159-yard performance in Regina on Aug. 25.
